At Little Elmhurst Day nursery, we’re proud to be more than just a childcare setting – we’re a family. Little Elmhurst (6 Months +)
- Home-from-home environment – We embody a homely feel throughout our setting to help your little one settle into nursery life with ease.
- Outdoor space – Our lovely outdoor area is used all year round! With our forest garden, vegetable patch and water feature, this is a calming place for all our children to enjoy.
- Regular outings – At Little Elmhurst, we see the benefit of taking our children out into the local community. With visits to the local shops, care homes and charity shops, they get to see new stimulating sites for an even more interesting day!
- Nutritious meals – Healthy and tasty meals are included within our nursery fees so you can be sure that your child is receiving the right nutrients while they are within our care.
- Great transport links – We are close to many busy stops and train stations, making your commute to work or home easy and convenient.
- Extra curricular activities – Our Baby Room and Toddler Room enjoy a weekly sensory class, where children can express themselves through lights, sounds, and music. They have full access throughout the week to our sensory room in the nursery.
Our preschool children enjoy a wide range of enriching opportunities, including Spanish, music, sports, drama and dance, and forest school. These experiences allow them to explore diverse activities and develop their interests during their time with us.
Discovers and Explorers
In our Baby Room, children are able to explore and move freely across both sides of the room. We welcome children from 6 months to 24 months before they transition to our Adventures Room. Each day, they have access to a wide range of sensory activities, carefully chosen to reflect their individual interests.
Our “Wall of Fame” proudly displays the children’s experiences and achievements outside of the setting, and we use these insights to shape our curriculum, incorporating interests from home to create a nurturing, home-from-home environment.
Children have access to the garden throughout the day, allowing them to explore nature and extend their learning in our outdoor classroom. In addition, small groups are taken to the sensory room by practitioners for focused sensory experiences that support the development of the prime areas of learning.
Adventurers
In Adventures, children are encouraged to develop their independence and imaginative skills. They have free-flow access to both sides of the room, the garden, and the sensory room. Small group and one-to-one sessions with their key person provide focused activities that support each child’s milestones.
Children in this room are aged 24 to 36 months, and while the focus remains on the prime areas of learning, they also begin to explore the specific areas. They take part in focus group times and key group activities, and our “Wall of Fame” continues to inspire a home-from-home environment by incorporating interests and experiences from home into their play and learning.
The children explore a wide range of activities, including sensory play, messy play, construction, reading, writing, counting, and more. These activities are inspired by what they enjoy at home, helping us create a consistent home-from-home environment each day they attend our setting.
Pioneers
In our preschool, children are exposed to a wide variety of enriching opportunities, including Spanish, music, sports, drama and dance, and forest school. These experiences allow them to explore different interests and develop skills across multiple areas.
Daily activities include sensory play, messy play, construction, reading, writing, counting, and much more. Children are encouraged to extend their learning based on experiences from home, supporting continuity between home and nursery.
Weekly sensory classes, small group focus activities, and access to indoor and outdoor learning environments help children develop key skills in a fun and engaging way. The curriculum is shaped around each child’s interests, fostering confidence, curiosity, and creativity in a supportive environment.
All of these experiences are designed to prepare children for school, helping them develop independence, social skills, communication, and early academic abilities, so they transition confidently into the next stage of their education.
